PricewaterhouseCoopers Named to Fortune's 100 Best Companies; Nike Supplier Agrees to Pay Overtime to Indonesian Workers - CSR Minute for January 30, 2012

PricewaterhouseCoopers US has been named one of Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” PwC ranks Number 48 overall and Number 11 among large companies on this year’s list, the 15th annual installment. The rating is a significant increase from the company’s Number 73 score last year. The ranking notes PwC’s increased transparency in communications around compensation and its Career Milestone Awards that recognize employees’ sustained effort and contributions. Through its charitable foundation, PwC has donated 2 million dollars to organizations with a focus on youth education.

A major Nike supplier has agreed to pay million dollars to 4,500 Indonesian workers for 590,000 hours of unpaid overtime. The settlement covers a period of two years, the time frame allowed by Indonesian statute of limitations law, during which workers at the PT Nikomas Gemilang IY plant did not receive full wages for time worked. Last year, Indonesian textile, clothing, and footwear trade unions, major suppliers, and sportswear brands including Nike, Adidas, New Balance, and Puma signed the Indonesian Protocol that addresses poverty wages. Nike operates 30 plants in Indonesia. The deal means an award to each worker of 20 US dollars.
