BNY Mellon Honored by Pro Bono Institute; Investors' Circle Commits M to New Enterprises - CSR Minute for April 5, 2012

BNY Mellon has been recognized by the Pro Bono Institute for providing legal aid to the underserved. The 2012 Laurie D. Zelon Pro Bono award was presented last week during the organization’s annual conference in New York by Justice Zelon of the California Court of Appeals, Justice Ruth Ginsburg of the Supreme Court, and Tom Todd, a partner at Reed Smith. BNY Mellon’s program includes providing legal services to micro-entrepreneurs who are starting new businesses in New York; helping returning U.S. veterans secure combat-related disabilities benefits; and advising foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong with employment issues.

Investors’ Circle has facilitated investments of more than million dollars in six companies during the first quarter of 2012. The enterprises span four industries—Sustainable Consumer Products, Digital Media and Software, Clean Tech, and Education—and embody the core values of the network of early stage investors. The primary criteria for investment set by Investors’ Circle is that the opportunities shared through their network must combine social, environmental, and financial returns. Since its founding twenty years ago, Investors’ Circle has guided 50 million dollars into 230 companies and funds dedicated to impact.
