August 13, 1994, 1 pm: New York City has just introduced a brand new farecard system for mass transportation, one unlike any other in the United States. We have been gathering data on this system for some time now and hackers all over the world are trying to figure out ways of cracking it. Unlike most other mass transit card systems, this one uses master databases. We will read the cards, duplicate them, and make every attempt to defeat the system. By the end of HOPE, we will have either cracked it or deemed it secure. Your participation is encouraged. We expect to have representatives of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on hand to answer questions and keep a nervous eye on us. Hosted by Red Balaclava with an appearance by BillSF.
Welcome! This is the place to go to see some real hacker culture and history. Our first four conferences (HOPE, Beyond HOPE, H2K, and H2K2) can be found in their entirety right here. Please enjoy our efforts to preserve it all and buy a DVD or two if you want a copy of anything for your personal library. We appreciate the support! Visit http://store.2600.com/videos.html to see details on the hundreds of talks from our assorted conferences, all of which will eventually be posted here.
